QUICK CHECKS
A few things to try first.
These steps solve many common issues and give our team better information if you still need help.
No internet at all
Check that the router and fibre ONT or wireless power supply have power.
Check that cables are firmly connected, without moving them to different ports.
Restart the router once: switch it off for 30 seconds, then allow several minutes to reconnect.
If it is still offline, note any red or unusual lights and report the fault.
Connection feels slow
Try more than one website or service.
Pause large downloads, cloud backups and streaming on other devices.
If possible, test one computer connected directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Tell us the time of the test and whether the result was over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Wi-Fi is weak in one room
Test close to the router first. A good result nearby usually points to Wi-Fi coverage inside the property.
Keep the router upright and in the open, away from cupboards, TVs and large metal objects.
We can help with Wi-Fi design or extra access points where the building needs them.
Only one site or app is failing
Try another site or app on the same device.
Try the affected service on a second device.
If everything else works, the issue may be with that provider. Check its status page before restarting your network equipment.
Please don’t factory-reset the router unless our team asks you to. A factory reset can remove the settings needed for your connection.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Useful answers, without the runaround.
Does “no active network notice” mean my connection is working?
No. The status panel reports wider service notices published by our team. A fault can affect one address, one piece of equipment or the Wi-Fi inside your property without appearing there. If the quick checks do not help, send us a support request.
What should I include in a fault report?
Include the service address, when the problem began, whether it affects every device, any red or unusual lights on the router or ONT, and what you have tried. For slow speeds, tell us whether you tested over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
What is the difference between Wi-Fi and the internet connection?
Your internet connection brings service to the property. Wi-Fi carries it from the router to devices around the building. If performance is good beside the router but weak in another room, the issue is usually local Wi-Fi coverage rather than the incoming connection.
When is technical support available?
Our office hours are 9am–5pm, Monday–Friday. For an urgent technical issue outside those hours, call 03 441 2314 for the on-call technician. General and account enquiries are handled during office hours.
Will my home phone work during a power cut?
Lightspeed home phone services use broadband equipment that needs mains power. During a power cut, the phone may not work, including for calls to 111. If someone in your household is at particular risk and needs a reliable way to contact 111, read our Vulnerable customers information and contact us.
How long does a new installation take?
Timing depends on service availability and whether work is needed at the property. We confirm the expected installation steps and timing after checking your address and before you commit.
What should I do if I am moving house?
Contact us before the move with the old and new addresses and your preferred dates. We will check what is available at the new property and coordinate the change with you.
Who do I contact about billing or my account?
Use the message form and choose “Billing or my account”, or email accounts@lightspeed.net.nz. Billing enquiries are handled during office hours.
Is a router included with my plan?
Your service order confirms the equipment included with your connection. Our current standard fibre plans include a supplied router; specialised, HyperFibre and custom network setups can have different equipment requirements.
How do I make a complaint?
Start by contacting us so we can try to resolve the issue directly. Our complaints page explains the process and independent escalation options.
Still need a hand?
Tell us what is happening and our local team will take it from there.
We handle the whole network — not just the connection coming in the door.

Lightspeed wasn't created in a boardroom by a national telecommunications company.
It grew out of a local technology business that had been supporting homes and businesses throughout the Queenstown Lakes district for decades. As technology became more important, one challenge kept appearing: reliable internet access wasn't keeping pace with the region's needs.
So we built a network.
What started as a way to solve local connectivity challenges evolved into Lightspeed — a locally owned technology and connectivity provider serving homes, businesses, events, and productions throughout the Queenstown Lakes district.
Today, we own and operate network infrastructure throughout the region, delivering internet services to homes, businesses, rural properties, apartments, accommodation providers, events, and production companies. Because we're local, we understand the unique challenges that come with providing connectivity in one of New Zealand's most geographically diverse regions.
We're local, independent, and invested in this region. Over the years, we've built an extensive wireless network across the Queenstown Lakes district while delivering fibre services to homes and businesses throughout the area. Whatever technology sits behind your connection, you'll always have a local team standing behind the service.
More Than Internet
While broadband is at the heart of what we do, Lightspeed has always been about helping people connect. Our team designs and installs fibre and wireless connections, builds WiFi networks, provides structured cabling, supports business infrastructure, and delivers specialist connectivity solutions for events, broadcasting, and film production.
Whether it's a family home, a growing business, a remote rural property, or a major international production, our approach remains the same: deliver reliable connectivity backed by knowledgeable local support.
Why Customers Choose Lightspeed

Built for Queenstown Lakes
From remote rural locations and alpine environments to high-density accommodation and international events, our network has been built to meet the demands of this region.
Looking Forward
Technology never stands still, and neither do we. We're continually investing in our network, infrastructure, and people to ensure our customers have access to reliable, high-performance connectivity today and well into the future.
Because great internet isn't just about speed — it's about having a local team you can rely on when it matters.
Your flat doesn't have its own fibre box? No problem. If there's already a fibre connection at the main house, we can set you up with a completely independent connection using the existing infrastructure.
How it works
Fibre boxes (ONTs) installed by Chorus have the capacity to support multiple services. We activate a second fibre connection on the existing box and run it to your unit with a dedicated router. You get your own independent service — physically separate with completely separate monthly billing.
What you get
✓Independent connection — your own service, not shared with the main house
✓Separate billing — you pay only for your own usage
✓Same speeds & reliability — Fibre500 or FibreMax options available
✓Professional installation — we handle the setup and testing
✓Local support — talk to a real person when you need help
